Tanya Kearney

President, Chief Operating Officer

Tanya Kearney is the President and Chief Operating Officer at The Energy Project, where she communicates and implements the organization’s vision, mission and overall direction.

Tanya brings over 20 years’ experience in corporate finance and organizational strategy. She began her career at Salomon Brothers as a financial research analyst, and then worked at Calvin Klein and Polygram, before finding a home in advertising. After spending 15 plus years in the Interpublic Group of Companies, Tanya managed the integration of their global financial systems, and moved into the role of CFO at two previously held Interpublic Companies, leading them through three mergers and two acquisitions.

Tanya believes in building accountability within high-performing teams that are committed to their organization and its strategic vision. She is proud to have helped build highly respected brands and to have assisted companies in weathering tough challenges.

In 2006, in direct response to Hurricane Katrina and the need to rebuild minority owned businesses in economically depressed neighborhoods, Tanya founded the Chessmen Group, a 501c3 Not for Profit, dedicated to partnering with business owners in a range of industries and mentors up-and-coming entrepreneurs.

Tanya holds an undergraduate degree in Finance and Technology, an MBA in Organizational Strategy and a Masters in Data and Business Intelligence (Sept 2018).

“It’s not just what you do, but how you do it. The Energy Project has helped me evolve as a leader. In finance you are conditioned early on to be rigid and demanding, and to work until you drop. I’ve come to learn that this is not good for me, and it’s not how you inspire people to do their best. The Energy Project helps me explore what’s going on inside myself, so that I can do better work and manage others more effectively.”
